Product Info & Care

At Mise Tableware, we believe that everyday objects should be both functional and beautiful—crafted with intention and made to last. Our collection of modern, wheel-thrown ceramics is designed for daily use and made with care in Vancouver, BC.

Each piece is handcrafted, one at a time, with close attention to form, surface, and usability. While our focus is primarily on tableware, we occasionally offer one-of-a-kind sculptural or decorative objects as part of our ongoing exploration in clay.

Caring for Your Mise Tableware

Ceramics are sturdy, but they do benefit from mindful care. With proper handling, your pieces will last for years and continue to serve beautifully.

  • Dishwasher Safe: While handwashing is always the gentlest method, all Mise Tableware pieces are dishwasher safe. Use mild soap and avoid harsh scrubbers to help protect the glaze over time.

  • Microwave Safe: Mugs, bowls, and tableware are microwave safe unless otherwise noted in the product description.

  • Food Safe: All materials and glazes used are non-toxic and food safe. If a piece is decorative or not intended for food use, it will be clearly stated in the listing.

  • Handle With Care: Though built for everyday use, ceramics can chip or break if dropped or knocked. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of delicate pieces, and store them securely.

  • Display Considerations: When using decorative pieces, ensure they’re placed on stable surfaces away from shelf edges to prevent accidents.

You may still find some pieces marked with “Cynical Ceramics” on the base—these are part of our ongoing transition and are made with the same care and intention as everything under the Mise name.

Why Handmade Ceramics Cost More

Ever wonder why handmade ceramics come with a higher price tag than mass-produced alternatives? We get it. Here's a little insight into what goes into each piece:

Time & Precision

Each piece begins with a block of clay and goes through multiple stages—throwing, trimming, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and glaze firing—each requiring time, focus, and skill. The entire process can take several weeks and is vulnerable to loss or failure at every step.

Years of Practice

Ceramicists spend years refining their techniques, developing forms, and mastering their materials. That teacup you’re holding isn’t just the result of a few hours in the studio—it’s the result of years of learning, testing, and evolving.

Materials & Equipment

From high-quality clay bodies and glazes to kiln firings that reach over 1200°C, the materials and tools required to produce ceramics come with significant costs. Every firing is an investment in both energy and outcome.

Small-Batch, One-of-a-Kind

Unlike factory-made ceramics, every Mise piece is made in small batches. No two are ever exactly alike. You're purchasing a handmade object that carries the marks of the person who made it—subtle irregularities, fingerprints, brushstrokes—small signs of the human hand.

By choosing handmade ceramics, you're supporting not only the artist but also a slower, more thoughtful way of living and making. Thank you for valuing the process—and for bringing a piece of that care into your home.
